Intro

This is a press release about Community Fix Mobile that appeared in the Croydon Guardian on Wednesday, June 23, 2010.

iPhone-in potholes

A Croydon IT consultancy has created an iPhone application to record and report graffiti, broken street lights, vandalism and potholes to Croydon Council.

The national service was developed for the Apple iPhone and uses GPS locators and the built-in camera to support the system in reporting issues to the council.

Dave Churchman, of Eigo, said: “Even during testing we started reporting genuine issues to the council in Croydon using the software – the council’s responses were quick and the potholes on our estate have been disappearing as quickly as we notice and report them."

Community Fix mobile expands on the existing Community Fix website by providing all of the tools needed to locate, describe and report potholes, graffiti and other similar nuisances to Croydon Council on the move.

The application is the result of collaboration between Eigo and Dial Media Group, the developers of a similar website system that has been running for more than two years.

Mr Churchman said: "I approached James Fernie, the director at Dial Media Group, to see if he could support our iPhone and Android project goals by allowing us access to its system and use its brand name.

"Mr Fernie and I shared a similar ethos when we discussed taking Community Fix on to the mobile platform – we both had the opportunity to give something back to the community."

A spokesman for Croydon Council said: "We certainly welcome anything that helps residents to communicate with us in new ways.

"This is a simple tool for anyone who uses this type of mobile phone, and it’s fantastic that a free service, which could potentially benefit people and authorities right across the country, has been developed by a forward-thinking company based right here in Croydon."
