ArchitectureBloodstained Memoirs App Specification

The videos and audio make up over 100 hours of never before seen footage from the "Bloodstained Memoirs" documentary. We used a 3rd party system the Urban Airship content management system to host the videos and audio that would be available in the app.

Urban Airship provide the content hosting for a small price and charge a small percentage per-download. They also provide an iOS library to act as a go-between for the iPhone application and the Apple App Store.

The content then needed to be setup on the iTunes Connect system to allow us to accept payment for content items through a user's Apple App Store account.

Solution ApproachBloodstained Memoirs Screenshot

First of all we investigated in-house how to develop applications with the Urban Airship iOS library, building a test app that connected to UA and downloaded free content.

This was the first app that we had developed with in-app payments, so we created test applications prior to project commencement that connected to our iTunes Connect account to ensure we fully understood the in-app payment setup process.

After we had finished our in-house proof of concept work, we commenced building and designing the application. Once the build of the application was complete, our design team had put together concepts which we then applied to the application.

The application was then released very quickly for UAT (User-Acceptance Testing) to the customer. We released the app to the app store very soon after and agreed a future release date with the customer to co-incide with planned updates to the Bloodstained Memoirs website.

Both us and the customer wanted to bring the application to market with the best exposure possible. So Dave Sinnot visited our offices where the application was developed and produced an app teaser video.

Conclusion

The whole project went very smoothly, we had a great working relationship with the customer, which allowed us to agree elements of the application very easily.

The customer came to visit the offices to meet and see how the development process for the application was carried out.

The app was launched live on 12th September 2011.
